Theme for the Right Season with Your Videographer

Importance of discussing the Right Wedding Theme for the Right Season with Your Videographer

Wedding video Kilkenny - Kilkenny wedding videosNot everyone woman aspires to be a June bride. Couples who are tying the knot can find many compelling reasons to plan their weddings for any of the four seasons – spring, summer, fall, or winter. As someone experienced in marriage video editing, you’ve undoubtedly experienced weddings set in a variety of times during the years, and have seen the success (or failure) of different wedding themes as they interact with the challenges of the season the wedding is in.

As a videographer, based in Kilkenny  your insights are valuable. Not only in the planning and execution of the marriage videography and editing but in suggesting how your video presentation can complement the entire wedding planning effort. Here are some useful suggestions for how you can discuss with the bride and groom the ways your video presentation can capture the spirit of the season.

Spring

Wedding video Kilkenny - Kilkenny wedding videosA spring wedding is about color and the reawakening of the earth around us from the doldrums of winter. Smart wedding planning for spring will emphasize bright floral colors, with décor and clothing that is light and airy. Outdoor venues are often chosen, either for the ceremony or the reception, or for both.
As a videographer, point out to your clients how you can capture the feel of spring by incorporating B-roll exterior shots of the venue or shooting back story elements that place the bride and her bridesmaids in a natural, colorful setting. Your wedding video editing can shine by incorporating the selective use of soft-focus and a shallow depth of field to complement the light and airy attributes of the décor and clothing.
Summer

Outdoor civil ceremonySummers can be hot, and smart wedding themes and videography will build a theme for the wedding around bold colors, spicy tastes, and a less formal approach. When consulting with your clients, stress how your marriage video editing can be used to capture the excitement of the day.
Editing is the key to capturing the essence of a summer wedding. A fast-paced editing style, with judicious use of jump cuts, will instill more excitement than a more sedate approach utilizing longer shots slower transitions.

Autumn

Wedding Video Kilkenny | Abbey video productionsAutumn brings to the wedding palette a rich selection of colors and hues, with vibrant earth tones a favorite focal point of the wedding design. Your marriage video editing can take full advantage of a well-considered and planned an autumn wedding, and here are a few suggestions you can make to your clients to capture the essence of the season.
Consider capturing B-roll footage of the bride and groom in casual takes at a colorful fall location. One of my personal favorites is shooting the couple walking along a lake or pond where the fall colors of the trees are reflected.  At the wedding location and reception capture, close-up footage of fall touches in the flower arrangements and table decorations to add to the effect.
Winter

Wedding video Kilkenny - Kilkenny wedding videosWinter weddings offer wonderful opportunities for dramatic and compelling videography. Your role as a marriage video editing professional provides an excellent opportunity to communicate with your client on ways to take advantage of the season. Winter weddings are complemented by sharp color distinctions that utilize the grayscale, while splashes of color from flowers, decorations, or even brightly colored canapes add a festive note.
In your marriage video editing role, take advantage of these opportunities to pitch some dramatic ideas to your clients. Utilizing black-and-white effects, with colored highlights that pop from the screen, is an excellent way to create memorable images that will really satisfy your clients. And take advantage of the low winter light and darker interior settings to create dramatic shots within the main narrative or as complementary B-roll footage.

Make Your Wedding Environmentally Friendly

Make Your Wedding Environmentally Friendly

Make Your Wedding Environmentally Friendly wedding video Kilkenny

Many people think that planning a green wedding requires a lot more work than a traditional wedding, which is why they cross it off their list almost immediately. However, an eco-friendly wedding can actually save you quite a lot of time and money, and you get to do something awesome for the planet, which is exactly why everyone should consider the idea.
With that in mind, here are some interesting ideas that you can use for your wedding in order to make it environmentally friendly and, at the same time, make it even more beautiful and completely unique.
Email Your Save-the-Date Announcements

Make Your Wedding Environmentally Friendly wedding video Kilkenny More and more couples are choosing to email their save-the-date announcements, so you can follow in their lead, instead of sending paper ones. You can do the same with your wedding invitations and save a lot of money (and trees, of course).
However, if you want to send out traditional save-the-dates and wedding invitations, make sure you use recycled paper to print them out. There are also papers made of linen, cotton, and bamboo, so you can consider those as well.
Choose a Stunning Venue That Doesn’t Need Décor
Wedding video KIlkenny - Abbey videoIt goes without saying that wedding decorations can make your reception look wonderful, but you can achieve the same result with no décor at all. It really is possible – all you need to do is pick a venue that will be so beautiful that it doesn’t need any decorations whatsoever. If you can find one, you can be absolutely sure that you and all of your guests will be amazed.
Find a place that has a lot of natural beauty and that screams a unique personality that doesn’t need anything extra in order to be fulfilled. Choose a venue that will show off the beauty of the environment and set the tone that will wow your guests. If you still want to go for minimal decorating, you can use glass containers filled with shells, for instance, and you can even use fruits and vegetables as your wedding centrepieces.
Use Fresh and Home-Grown Flowers

Make Your Wedding Environmentally Friendly wedding video Kilkenny What’s a wedding without flowers, right? However, not all flowers are organic so, in order to avoid leaving a large carbon footprint, you can use fabric or paper flowers, or any other alternative to flowers that can still make a huge difference to your wedding.
However, if you still want to have real flowers on your wedding, find a local organic florist who will make you beautiful arrangements, or you can make your own bouquets from freshly-cut flowers from your local farmers’ market. You can even use home-grown flowers and place potted plants on the tables, as those can truly be lovely decorations.
Go Digital with Photography
brides_choice_awards_winner_ 2016 Wedding video KilkennyOf course, most photographers nowadays use digital cameras, but you need to make sure that the one who will shoot your wedding only shoots in digital format. That way, not only will you save a lot of money, since you will choose which photos you actually want printed, but you will also save a lot on wasted paper, not to mention that you will avoid all the harsh chemicals needed for printing photos.
These tips will certainly give you an idea of how you can make your wedding environmentally friendly, but there are quite a lot more things that you can do in order to go green, so make sure you explore them further. Don’t forget to find a great videographer as well, since you need someone who can capture all the important moments of your wedding day and preserve them forever, so make sure you find someone who will provide you with the best wedding video editing services and who will deliver videos that you and your loved one will cherish for the rest of your life.

Mary and CJ Wedding Video

Wedding Video Kilkenny - Abbey Video Productions

Mary and CJ  were recently married in the lovely Church of Jenkinstown Co Kilkenny,  Mary’s home place is just a hundred yards from the Church, her home is a lovely farm house and was in tip top shape for Mary’s wedding as you can see from some of the stills on the post, and old pump  feature in the yard grabbed my attention with some beautiful yellow flowers planted.

That morning it felt like the month of July so sunny and warm and made for a fantastic day for filming. I arrived about 2 hrs before the wedding for the bridal preps which were going well when I arrived, the girls were busy with hair, makeup and all that you might expect on the morning of a wedding, Mary was as calm and so easygoing and the girls were planning the day as the make up person was busy with the final touches.

Wedding Video Kilkenny - Abbey Video ProductionsThe  ceremony was lovely and friendly and carried out by Fr O  Gorman, after the service we moved across the yard to Jenkinstown House, a fabulous five-bay single-storey private (estate) Catholic chapel, c.1825 for the family photos, and also used the grounds which were full of blossom  for bridal party photographs.

Abbeyleix Manor  was the reception venue and what a hotel, its  family run  and ran so well and professional I would have to recommend it! Mary and CJ were greeted and taken in to sample some lovely finger food to keep them going till meal time. some lovely music was keeping their guests entertained while most people sat outside in the glorious evening sunshine, again a good sign of a hotel the guests were called into the fabulous reception room at 5.30 for their meal.

Wedding Video Kilkenny - Abbey Video ProductionsSpeeches were preformed before the meal which I think is the best way as the lads can sit and enjoy their meal, some hotels frown on this  practice and make every excuse under the sun to put you of it, by saying your guests will be hungry but thats why you provide some food when they first arrive to the hotel, but its YOUR DAY and you have every right to carry out your speeches when you want, after all your paying!

Their band for the evening was the ever popurler “The Bottle Brothers” and wow did they  get the party started and kept it going.

Best wishes to Mary and CJ, they were a lovely couple to work with, along with their family and guests. ~ Joe

The wedding industry is booming at the moment and next year looks like a bumper year as well.  The budgets are still in place of course and rightly so, but I have often said,  you get what you pay for.  Of course you can get your wedding video for 300 euro for the full day but is that all your memories are worth? The average price for the day can be 700+ and I think that’s fair – it often can be an 11 hr day and that’s only the wedding day, editing has to come into play after that.  So I would say if your are planning on getting married and having a wedding DVD  give time choosing your videographer. You don’t need to pay 900+ to include a few dances that night, unless it’s a 2 man crew with 2  manned cameras, if that is what you need go for it, but I like to film with the “fly on the wall” approach.  This way both you and your guests are often unaware of cameras there at all, but of course all the little details get covered, with your guests enjoying themselves and your full day captured in detail.

Great local wedding

Last week I had the pleasure of filming a lovely fun wedding for a family I know very well,  John and Tess Ryan (Bob).  Their lovely daughter  Aoife  married Frank Cussen from Galbally in Oola Church.  I called to Aoife’s house to capture the excitement on the morning – the usual stuff, hair, make up, more hair and more make up, and that was only her dad and the the lads!  But seriously it was great to film all the fun of the girls getting ready- it’s a lovely start to a wedding DVD.  Earlier in the week I had done a little bit of filming  with Frank to get his thoughts on his upcoming wedding and on the morning  of the wedding  Aoife spoke her thoughts on camera and I mixed the two together to make the lovely clip you will see below.

Wedding Video Kilkenny weddings bridesAs I mentioned, Oola Church was my next stop.   What a huge amount of friends they have, guests from Galbally, Cashel and all over the world turned up!  The ceremony was conducted by Fr. Jack O’Neill and when Aoife and Frank were married we moved on to Aoife’s granny’s house, a lovely farm setting with the old milking steps providing a lovely backdrop for the photo session.

Wedding Video Kilkenny weddings bridesAoife and Frank had thought of every thing, with green wellies for the lads and flowery ones for the girls!  Their photographers captured some great photos here and I got some lovely footage.

Wedding Video Kilkenny weddings bridesThe Bunratty Castle Hotel was our last stop for the day.  Aoife and Frank arrived soon after me – I like to try and get to the reception venue before the bride and groom to film the drinks reception so they can see what was happening elsewhere on their day.  The function room in the hotel is splendid and looked fabulous on the day. The wedding cake was fantastic and the speeches were excellent – funny, emotional, and just the right length.  One of the highlights of the day for the lads was when both mothers sang “The Voyage” together after the speeches; it sounded fabulous so well done to the mams for that!

Their entertainment for the night was “The Seducers” band  and they had the huge crowd rocking the night away.

Wedding Video Kilkenny weddings bridesI’d like to wish Aoife and Frank congratulations on their marriage, and all the best for the years to come.

Wedding Speeches 2017 … Long or Short ?

Wedding videographer Kilkenny

Over the years in the videography business here in Kilkenny and Tipperary  I have heard it all, with wedding speeches anyway!  I remember 15 years ago at weddings, the smokey hotel function rooms and the speeches that were short and to the point. As time went on the smoking ban arrived and the speeches got longer & longer for some reason.

weddingvideokilkenny.comHow long is a good speech? Well I guess the way to answer that is how long in a piece of string… who knows, but the attention span of your guests should not be over looked.  The total duration of the wedding speeches is usually 20 to 30 minutes max.  If you want your wedding speeches to be short, then you have to make sure all the speakers know their limits and no more.  Long speeches can risk  repetition and guest boredom and I have see this while videoing weddings all over Ireland.

My advice to couples that ask about what I think regarding speeches is this: I tell them it’s their day but just to be aware a short speech is always remembered and spoken about later, a long speech is soon forgotten because it was too much for people to take in.  Also bear in mind that if the speeches are after the meal and are long winded, people get fed up as they need to stretch their legs.  I have heard horror comments after the speeches from guests after sitting for nearly an hour listening to a guy that “loves his own voice!” but as I emphasise – it’s your day and your speeches. The traditional scenario of having the speeches after the meal is fine as well, but think of the groom & best man and also the dads  all  sitting there eating their meal thinking the speeches have to be done soon – it can and will put them off their meal.

A trend that is becoming increasingly popular is to have the wedding speeches before the meal. This really helps people who have a speech to deliver and are somewhat anxious about making it. This will have to be  arranged with your hotel in advance so that they can  Plan to accommodate it with your meal.

drinks at wedding
        Wedding Videographer Kilkenny/ Carlow

I understand with hotels they have to keep the meal hot while the wedding speeches are being conducted, but from feedback from couples 70% now want their speeches before the meal. This way all involved in the speaking  can relax and enjoy their meal knowing it’s done and dusted! It’s a great idea for  people that are not used to public speaking. Of course from the hotel’s side of things this can be a nightmare! The bride and groom tell the hotel they will only be 15 minutes but I have see this 15 mins drag on to an hour!  The poor chef is doing his best to stop the veg from sticking to the pans, so i can understand why the hotels frown on this!  If your speeches are going to be before the meal tell the hotel this and stay to an agreed time-frame – this way your guests won’t be eating cold food and all will be happy. Brand new blog in the making for next week, very interesting one at   that!  check back   ~  Joe

Welcome 2017

Well the Christmas Day celebrations are over and as we wind down and head towards the end of the year we can take a look back at 2016…

http://abbeyvideoproductions.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/brides_choice_awards_winner_ 2016 Wedding video KilkennyOne of the highlights of the year for me was winning the Mrs2be Brides’ Choice award for videography. Being shortlisted last year and making it to finalist stage was very exciting but winning the category this year was something special and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank again all the couples who voted for us, and especially Jackie who nominated us. We hope we can continue to provide the same level of customer satisfaction in Tipperary, Kilkenny and further afield in 2017 and beyond!

Of course it’s also a time to look ahead to the future and for newly engaged coupes it’s such an exciting time! This time of year is very popular for engagements and for the first few weeks of January the bookings come in thick and fast! So if you’re planning on getting married on a key date over the next few years such as a bank holiday weekend or around Christmas or the New Year, now’s the time to start making those enquiries! Contact us here at Abbey Video Productions for more information and advice and we’ll be happy to help you.

Christmas Weddings in KilkennyWith the last few weddings of the year coming up for us, at Annacarty in Co. Tipperary and Kilmoganny in Co. Kilkenny, we would like to thank all of our 2016 brides and grooms, along with all of our other customers from shows and individual projects. We look forward to the many weddings we will be recording in 2017 and hope that the New Year brings happiness and health to you all. Merry Christmas all

Christmas Weddings in KilkennyAs the countdown to Christmas gets underway myself and Breda at Abbey Video Productions would like to send all our clients and friends our very best wishes. For many of our clients this is their first Christmas together as a married couple and so we hope it will be extra special and the first of many to come!

Christmas Weddings in KilkennyAs well as all the usual rushing around that comes at this time of year we are also kept busy still with weddings and shows and the usual surge of tape to DVD conversions! It can be a lovely gift at Christmas to receive a DVD of a wedding or a match that took place years ago and was recorded on to the old VHS tape but which hasn’t been seen for a long time because the old machines are now defunct. We recently converted a tape of a wedding that was recorded almost thirty years ago – imagine the memories and nostalgia that must have come flooding back for that couple when they saw their family and friends and all the wedding details having not been able to watch the tape in such a long time! I’m sure there were a few laughs along with the more poignant moments, and it goes to show the investment that having your wedding day recorded can be in the long run.

Christmas Weddings in Kilkenny

The weeks around Christmas are such a wonderful time for a wedding. The Christmas trees and decorations provide a lovely finishing touch to venues and the roaring fires and hot drinks on arrival are always so welcome! Family and friends tend to be around a lot more, maybe having time off work and able to relax a bit, which all contributes to the sense of occasion and maybe enables the celebrations to continue that little bit longer!

Christmas 2016 - Wedding Video Kilkenny - It's Show TimeOf course school show time is in full swing and we have been out recording shows all over Tipperary and Kilkenny for the past couple of weeks. It’s great to see the enthusiasm of the children and I’m sure the teachers and assistants feel that all the hard work has paid off when they see the excitement of the children walking on to the stage to perform in front of their parents and families. A DVD of the school show can be a lovely gift at Christmas and will evoke fantastic memories in years to come.

So once again we’d like to wish all our clients and friends a very happy and peaceful Christmas and hope that you get what you wish for yourselves!
